I’m not usually a huge fan of matte lipstick. The matte liquids dry out my lips but this matte lip crayon from Doucce is not as drying. The pretty brick shade is called Busy Lizzie and it looks so nice with my fair skin.
The pigment is amazing so mush so that’s it’s a but hard to remove. When you buy the retail version you also get a sharpener and it comes in 12 shades.
First up I love the case on this lipstick. It’s a deep purple metal with a magnetic top so that it grabs when you put the lid back on.
The lipstick itself is a beautiful matte cream that comes in 7 shades. I got Blix which is a an orange/red with a gold shimmer.
This is a nice high-end brand that feels very light going on but has amazing pigmentation. It does have a nice matte finish but isn’t drying which I love. One swipe and I got great coverage. They staying power is also very good for a matte/cream. I did have to reapply after I ate but that’s ok.
I’d love to try some more Fiona Stiles products now.
I received two full-sized ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip Lippies in my April GlossyBox and I’m pretty happy with them. The Ultra Matte Lippies come in 50 shades!
What’s to love?
Being over 40 I have a love/hate relationship with the liquid matte lipsticks in terms of dryness but I have to say that they ColourPop Mattes are quite nice and don’t dry my lips too much.
I received two shades…Airplane Mode which is a nude shade and Tuesday which is a bright pink coral. I prefer the Airplane Mode shade which looks so pretty. Tuesday is way to bright for my fair skin.
The formula on these lippies is super thin. I actually dripped some out of the tube when I was taking my photos. However this didn’t impede the application, in fact I think it made it easier.
Once on the lipstick dries very quickly and I can barely tell it’s there and it has decent staying power. I got about 6 hours worth of wear however it did come off when I ate greasy food and I mean it all came off!
The Ulta Matte also has no scent and the retail price is $6.
You can see me apply the Airplane Mode shade in my video below!
First up, the packaging is so cute. It’s a good quality clear plastic tube with white polka dots and a black lid. The doe foot is angled for easy application.
The DLS Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick is very nice. The Rust shade is gorgeous. It’s a deep red with hints of rust. I swatched it in my video below.
The formula itself is super creamy but to my surprise it’s more of a semi-matte then a true on matte. My lips do tend to dry out with mattes. There’s just a touch of satin going on with it as well and my lips felt very smooth after it dried.
It applies very smoothly but I had some trouble with bleeding edges which I tend to have with dark liquid shades. It wasn’t a huge problem. I just used a make-up wipe to clean the edges. I think a good lip liner would solve that problem.
It had good staying power (almost too good), I had to remove it with a make-up remover wipe. This formula has zero scent and it’s Made in China. Retail Price: $14

A few days ago I got a nice It Cosmetics haul that included the Naturally Pretty Essentials Matte Eyeshadow Palette (I did not get the Superhero Mascara) and I’m really impressed with this little palette.
What’s to love?
The case on this palette is unique in that it’s got a puffy cardboard top with a magnetic closure. It also comes with a small mirror but it does not have a brush.
Naturally Pretty is a nude matte palette with 6 eyeshadow shades and the Transforming Hello Light in Radiant pearl which transforms a matte into a satin. Or you can use it has a highlighter.
I swatched the shades, from left to right you get Allure: smoky gray, Intrigue: brown earthy sepia, Passion: nude taupe, Imagine: silk beige, Wonder: nude khaki and Dream: desert sand.
The shades that I like most the the Intrigue brown and the Imagine silk beige. This anti-aging formula is talc-free and it really was smooth for me. This is one of the nicest nude palettes I’ve used.
I found the pigmentation to be strong considering these are nude shades. I did not use an It brush but I did notice that my brush picked up a lot of product when I dipped it in. Below I am wearing the brown and beige shades. I had no creasing and I love how pretty this shadow looks. I am wearing the It Hello Lashes mascara too.
Overall I am very impressed with this palette and I’d like to try more It eyeshadow shades.
If you want to see what else I got in my It Cosmetics Haul check out my YouTube video. I will be reviewing more of these product right here on my blog in the coming weeks.
I’m still on the search for the perfect matte lipstick so I decided to try out the CoverGirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick which is the Katy Perry branded line. I picked up the Coral Cat shade for Summer and I had mixed results.
What’s to love (and what’s a bit meh)?
This is definitely a demi-matte which for me is really more of a cream. While the finish leans a bit more towards matte I would say it looks and feels more creamy. I didn’t have any drying issues.
I think this is a nice drugstore pick although it is priced a bit high at $8.99 (unless you can find a sale). The lipstick itself feels on the harder side for me. It didn’t quite glide on like a high-end brand, however once I had the product entirely on my lips it looked nice. I had to use about 3 coats to get full coverage. The color did fade after eating and had to reapply about 2-3 times during the course of my day.
The lipstick does have a very faint perfume scent that I didn’t hate, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
The packaging is cute with a black and white case and a color-coded bottom with cat ears above the shade name. I picked the Coral Cat shade because I thought it would be pretty for Summer. I think the color is a beautiful bright coral that did make my lips pop.
Overall I’m not sure I’d get another one of these unless they were on sale. The Pink Paws shade looks very pretty.
I think I may have found the perfect matte color stick today! The Revlon Matte Balm comes in 10 beautiful shades and has great coverage.
What’s to love?
I got the Sultry shade which is a nice dark mauve/pink. This one is also comparable to the Clinique Chubby Stick and the Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick only it’s a matte finish and I felt like it had great moisture.
The stick goes on super smooth and it’s got the most delicious mint scent. I was so glad it wasn’t mango this time! So the scent is a huge win for me. The packing is nice with a thick tube and a twist up design.
I didn’t feel like the matte finish was as matte as a liquid lipstick. I don’t think you can get that true-on matte finish in a cream but this one comes darn close. The pigmentation is amazing with no streaking or thin areas which was good too.
It did not have terrific staying power for me as I had to reapply after I ate but that was fine with me. I don’t mind reapplying if I get good moisture. It also didn’t pass the kiss test on my glass.
Overall I liked it. I would buy the Matte Balm in another shade. I thought my lips looked pretty and plump which is always a win and the price is nice at $8.99.
Earlier this week I received a deluxe sample of the GlamGlow Volcasmic Matte Glow Moisturizer from Sephora and being a huge fan of the GlamGlow line I was very excited to try out their new moisturizer.
What’s to love?
The GlamGlow Volcasmic Matte Moisturizer is not cheap at $54 for 1.7 oz/ 50 mL however after using it I’m thinking I’d like a full-sized jar.
When I opened the jar the product was completely different from what I expected. When you first put your finger on top it feels spongey, this is not a liquified or wet moisturizer. You need to press you finger in a little to get it out of the jar, it almost feels like a soft lip balm. It actually felt a little greasy on my finger too but when I applied it to my face it blends and absorbs into a matte finish which is really beautiful.
I used the GlamGlow Brightening Treatment (orange jar) first which does leave my face a little red. Then I applied the Volcasmic Matte Moisturizer. As you can see in the photo I don’t look greasy at all, although this pic isn’t the greatest…46 and no make-up is a little scary : )
The good news it that it hydrated my skin, smoothed my wrinkles and left my face feeling amazing. I am super impressed with this product and it smells like an orange Creamsicle which is so nice.
Their claim is that it “hydrates without adding shine” and I have to say that was the case with me and I do have oily skin. I have such a hard time finding a moisturizer that works without being too slick and I think I’ve found one in Volcasmic.
I’m going to use up the rest of the sample and then I might just splurge on this. My birthday is next week so that might be a good excuse to get it!
I’m a huge fan of the Smashbox brand so it’s no surprise that I like the Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick.
This long-lasting matte is very easy to apply and dries quickly without feeling super dry on my lips. Like I said usually matte liquids dry and shrivel my lips but this one looks nice and plump which I love. The pigmentation is also amazing. I had zero patchy spots and compete coverage in one swipe.
The lip gloss smells like cookies which is nice and it’s free of Parabens, Sulfates and Phthalates.
The funny thing is I have no idea what shade this is! I got this sample last Summer and the shade is not listed on the tube. However I think it might be Deep Orange which is sold out at Sephora so it might have been a Summer color.
Overall I think this is my new favorite matte liquid!
This morning when I picked up my free Clinique Lipstick at Ulta I was amazed that Christmas has indeed arrived and with some really cool holiday beauty gift sets.
I am all over The Body Shop gift boxes, OPI Holiday nail colors and the Bazinga! of all sets which was is the NYC Soft Matte Lip Cream Vault Set for $64.99 which is pretty good because it comes out to $1.80 per tube (you get 36 colors). I am actually amazed at the shear size of this set. Back in the 80’s if we owned 10 lipsticks (total) we owned the beauty world, now the average human (including me) has well over 50 lipsticks in their stash.
Interestingly this set gets mixed reviews at Ulta. Some were saying they the quality is not the same as the full-sized product, yet some reviewers are saying the quality is excellent. Has anyone tried this set? I’d love to hear what everyone thinks.
