The Maybelline The City Mini Eyeshadow Palettes are available now at Ulta.com for $9.99. I’m pretty excited about this line as the colors look so pigmented. If they are anything like the Maybelline The Graffiti Nudes Palette I may have to pick one up.
The Maybelline Volum’ Express Pumped Up! Colossal Mascara also comes in Glam Black however I was surprised to see that the Glam Brown is a very, very dark brown. It almost looks like a light black.
Aside from the odd shade I really like this formula. It has a very low odor and the wand is amazing. It’s super fuzzy and makes application pretty easy. I had no goopiness or flaking and my eye lashes did look super volumized. I wore it with no issues for the entire day and it lasted quite well.
I do like picking up drug store mascara because I blow through it so fast. Being a germaphobe I rarely keep mascara more than 60 days. I’ve always been a fan of Maybelline mascara and this one does not disappoint.
The Maybelline Color Sensational Color Elixir is a lip gloss with a nice finish and feel, I do think it has average hydrating effects. I have the Blush Essence shade and while it’s not super pigmented it does do the job. I would say this is a nice quality drug store lip gloss and it can be layered on top of lipstick for a nice shiny look.
The packaging is pretty with a clear plastic tube and good quality doe foot but the color looks much more muted in person than on the Maybelline website.
Blush Essence is a shimmery pink that looks translucent on my lips (that is a drop of water in the photo, as it was raining when I took this photo) and is about average in terms of stickiness. Most shiny lip glosses feel a little sticky to me.
Overall I would buy this one again for the quality and price.
The Maybelline FaceStudio Master Strobing Liquid Illuminating Highlighter comes in 3 shades 100 (Light/Iridescent), 200 (Medium/Nude Glow) and 300 (Deep/Gold). I have the 100 shade.
First, I have to say that a little goes a long way with this product. When I use too much I’m radiating shine. The formula is a very light pearl shade that has a pink/lavender hue.
I like using this high on my cheek bones and down my nose for a little extra illumination. It does blend very well however when I blend too much it does disappear. Once it’s dry I feel like it’s pretty much in place for me for the day. I like how it brightens my skin too.
It has a light scent that’s not floral or food. It’s more of a standard foundation smell and it’s Made in the USA.
Overall I like this product and would purchase it again.
Price: $9.99
The FaceStudio Master Strobing Liquid Illuminating Highlighter is part of my Target Maybelline Beauty Haul!
I picked up the Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer Mascara as part of my Maybelline haul this week and I have to say this unusual product works wonders on my brows. It comes in 5 shades: Medium Brown, Blonde, Soft Brown, Deep Brown and Auburn. I got the Blonde shade.
What’s to love?
The oval wand is pretty much like a standard mascara brush but the real magic of the product are the tiny hair-like fibers in the formula. According to Maybelline this product is a “fiber infused gel”. At first the little fibers creeped me out because I wasn’t expecting them to be so large. The theory is that the fibers make your brows fuller by adding volume rather than just color.
I applied the brow mascara by swiping my brow from the inside to the outside. I found it to be a little bit hard to apply and it felt very wet. I did apply it in my Maybelline Haul video and I’ve gotten more more skilled at putting it on with practice. Maybelline does suggest wiping the excess product off before you start and this did help with the wetness.
The main goof I made on my first application was pushing the wand too hard against my brows. It works much better if you “comb” your brows in short strokes.
I actually have pretty thick brows so I don’t need a huge amount of volume but my moms brows are very thin and she did find that it gave her more fullness.
Overall I think this is a neat product for natural brow filling however I wish the wand was a little bit better. It was slightly hard to control however I think the overall look was nice.
It had a very low odor for me and is Made in the USA.
I went to Target today and ended up with a nice Maybelline Haul. I got 4 new products and 2 that I’ve used before. I am a huge fan of Maybelline and found some good stuff. Here’s what’s in my haul!
Maybelline Lash Sensational– This mascara has grown on me over the last 6 months. It’s a great daily wear for me. Price: $5.99
Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Color in Romantic Rose – This pretty pink lipstick felt smooth and creamy and looked very nice. It also has no scent which I love. Price: $4.29
Maybelline Brow Precise Eyebrow Perfecting Highlighter – This is my favorite product from todays haul. It’s a super creamy brow highlighter that made my eyes pop. $6.99
Maybelline Face Studio Master Strobing Liquid – Wow! This product is so pretty and luminous. I got the 100 Light/Iridescent shade and it’s gorgeous. Price: $7.99
Maybelline Eye Studio Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer – This is the most unusually product of the bunch. It’s a liquid brow mascara that feels wet upon application. It did make my brows look amazing too. Price: $8.99
Target had a deal today that if you bought 4 Maybelline products you got a $5 gift card and I had coupons and Cart Wheel so I got a great deal too. Once I use these products for a few weeks I’ll do a more in depth review.
I did a YouTube reveal too so be sure to check it out!
Oh the trials of getting everyone out the door in the morning. If you’re a mom like me you know that that it’s hard to juggle lunch and homework and the dog and finding your husbands keys. Not to mention getting yourself dressed and ready.
Now that I’m over 40 I rarely leave the house without make-up on. Last year I even insisted on applying lipstick before my husband carted me off to the hospital ER with pneumonia.
So I decided to take the YouTube 5 Minute Make-Up Challenge and I think I did pretty good. I used just 7 products (you can see them listed below) and I actually feel like I can face the grocery store with a smile.
I just turned 47-years-old and it’s pretty scary to see all the changes my skin is going through. I have several problem areas including combination skin, large pores. dark eyes, uneven skin tones, hooded eyes and a some sagging. It’s actually quite interesting (and frightening) to take a selfie with zero make-up on, I debated putting this photo up but decided to be brave about it.
The bottom line is that we all age and just need a little help to regain a youthful appearance. I love make-up, it makes me feel good to experiment with new products and shades. There’s something very cathartic about buying a new lipstick or palette.
I believe that anyone can learn how to choose and apply make-up, it just takes a little practice and I learn new things everyday.
Here’s a list of the products I used for my makeover:
Eyes – I used the purple shades in the Grav3yard Girl Tarte Swamp Family Palette. I also used the Clinique Chubby Mascara in black. On my brows I used the Smashbox Eye Brow Ultra Tech Shaping Powder Mimics which is a neat product.
Face – I used the BECCA Backlight Priming Filter on my forehead, chin and cheeks first. Then I used the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed (I just got this) and the Bye Bye Pores Blush. I really love both of these products. I contoured with the It Cosmetics Sunshine In A Compact and highlighted with the Perfect Lighting Luminizer.
Lips – I can’t believe how pale my lips look bare. Geesh! This reminds me that I should never leave the house without lipstick on. I used the Revlon Ultra HD Gel Lipcolor in Desert for todays look.
Also check out my Over 40 5 Minute Make Over Challenge on YouTube!
L’Oreal Voluminous Feline Noir Mascara – Feline Noir has been my go-to mascara for January and you know me! I only use mascara for about a month and this one has done me well.
Covergirl Outlast All-Day Lip Color – I had mixed review on the all-day lip color because the red was a little too red for me however “custom coral” looks great and I love the clear moisture stick.
Chapstick Total Hydration Lip Scrub – Again with the lips! I am now officially addicted to lip scrub and have noticed a great improvement to the condition of my lip. I also love the mint flavor on this one so much.
So there you have it! 5 drug store beauty finds that I love. What are yours?
I am a huge fan of Maybelline Baby Lips so when I saw this new Baby Lips Glow Balm I was all over it! This pink lip balm is supposed to adapt to your lips to create a personal pink shade.
What’s to love?
The new Baby Lips Glow Balm looks like the standard Baby Lips packaging only in pink and silver. The color of the product is an opaque pink that smells like vanilla sugar and is very nice.
I found the hydration to be really good and it felt nice and light weight on my lips, I didn’t think it was sticky at all. It feels very buttery and soft.
As for the color? It turned my lips a nice light pink with a hit of mauve. It also gave me a semi-gloss finish and I thought it looked really nice. I would definitely wear Baby Lips Glow Balm for Winter dryness and a hint of color. I think this is a great product.
One interesting note is that the back of the package says “For Adult Use Only” and I’m not sure what that means. My guess is that they want people to know it’s not for babies being that it’s called “Baby Lips”. Go figure.
