Going Retro With Pretty Vulgar (my thoughts about this new “birdy” line)

I’ve acquired a lot of products from the Pretty Vulgar cosmetic line through my beauty boxes like Boxycharm and I wanted to share my thoughts. This fairly new company has an entire line of product that revolves around a retro vintage bird theme (their mascara even has a bird on top) and they are super cute products. They are also cruelty free, fragrance free, gluten free, paraben free and sulfate free.

I have the…

  • Make Them Blush blush in the shade Hush Blush $26
  • The Ink Gel Eyeliner $24
  • Nightingale Palette $35
  • Bronze Mannikin Bronzer $32

I love the retro looks of these products and the quality is pretty good. I wear the blush often and the eyeshadow palette is super pigmented and pretty. I love the bronze Clutch shade below and that bird cage design is awesome!

I’d say my only issue is their price point. $32 for the Bronze Mannikin Bronzer is really high and the case isn’t super impressive. I would not have gotten this one outside of Boxycharm. Their lipsticks are pretty too but at $24 a pop that’s higher than MAC.

So while I love this line it’s a bit too pricey for me. My hope is that once they get more established their prices come down a bit.

Boxycharm February 2019 Review

In 2019 I started to unsubscribe to my beauty boxes (but that’s another post). The one that I kept was Boxycharm (here’s my referral code) because it’s really the best value, hands down. For only $21/month you get well over $100 worth of product, many of which are full sized. As you can see from the photo below my February 2019 was a jackpot win! The Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (which retails for $24) paid for the entire box.

I also got….

The Pretty Vulgar Bronzed B, Bronzer (retail $32). This is a nice product which I would never pay $32 for but I was thrilled to get it in my box. It’s Made in the USA too.

The Touch In Sol No Problem Primer (retail $18). I have never heard of this brand but a full-sized primer is a good product to get.

The Sol De Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream (retail $20). I have the Bum Bum Cream and this one smells amazing too. So a huge yes to a nice coconut cream.

The NudeStix Magnetic Luminous Eye Color (retail $24). Again I would never pay $24 for a stick but happy to get one. The shade is a super nice bronze and I am loving it already.

So this month the box was a $118. Yes, this box is amazing!

Pretty Vulgar The Ink Gel Eyeliner Review

Today I got the Pretty Vulgar The Ink Gel Eyeliner in my May 2018 Boxycharm Box. This is probably the neatest eyeliner I have ever owned!

What’s to love?

The Ink Gel Eyeliner comes in a large vintage style pot that looks like an ink well. The label is gold. The eyeliner is a soft solid gel and I used the the Aesthetica Angled Eyeliner brush that I also got in my May 2018 Boxycharm Box.

This is one of the smoothest eyeliners I have ever used. It’s also got a deep pigment. I am so thrilled with this product! It’s also cruelty free, fragrance free, paraben free, sulfate free, talc free and Vegan.

The Ink Gel Eyeliner comes in:

  • Black List (I have this one)
  • Dear Diary – Grey
  • Plot Twist -Brown

Pretty Vulgar Make Them Blush Review

I received a Pretty Vulgar Make Them Blush in Hush Blush in my March 2018 Boxycharm Box and it’s so pretty! I am a huge fan of the Pretty Vulgar line, in the December 2017 Boxycharm Box I got the Pretty Vulgar My Lips Are Sealed Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick.

Pretty Vulgar is  “a vintage makeup line, that was created by a collective flock of cosmetics industry veterans, innovators and makeup artists who wanted to create a brand that embodies the fact that people are beautiful multifaceted contradictions“.

What’s to love?

First up the packaging is amazing! The blush case has a Victorian feel. The case looks like an old gold picture frame.

The blush itself is a dusty rose shade and feels super smooth on my skin. This one appears to have sheer texture and is nicely pigmented. I am loving this blush!

Pretty Vulgar My Lips Are Sealed Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick

Pretty Vulgar is a beautiful new brand that I was super excited to try out. It’s cruelty-free and “a vintage makeup line, that was created by a collective flock of cosmetics industry veterans, innovators and makeup artists who wanted to create a brand that embodies the fact that people are beautiful multifaceted contradictions“.

I got the Pretty Vulgar My Lips Are Sealed Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Secret Sabotage and it’s amazing!

What’s to love?

First up the packaging is amazing! The lid has a vintage floral design and the lettering is bronze. However it’s the lipstick itself that is so great. It’s a bright metalic shade that just shines. I usually don’t love liquid lipstick but this one is simply gourgeous! It also lasted me for about 4-6 hours and through meals and it’s gluten free. I really want to try more from this brand.
