I wanted the Jet Black but they were out at Target. Has anyone tried this product yet?

Covergirl Melting Pout Liquid Lipstick Review

I received a tube of the Covergirl Melting Pout Liquid Lipstick in my January 2018 Target Box.

c.jpg

What’s to love?

The Covergirl Melting Pout Liquid Lipstick is a gel liquid lipstick that has a nice fuzzy applicator. Melting Pout comes in 12 shades, I have the Evan-Gel-Ical shade which is a coral pink.

The lipstick itself is a sheer gel gloss with no scent and it does not tingle. I also got great coverage — it feels like a hybrid of a gloss and a sheer lipstick. It has nice staying power for a glossy type product, I got about 3 hours in before I needed to reapply.

Overall I would buy this product again, and would love to try Gelebrity which is more of a raisin shade.

Price: $6.89

Covergirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil Review

The Covergirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil comes in 10 shades including Violet Flame which I have. Despite the OK reviews I am actually really loving this pencil.

What’s to love?

I love this pencil as a simple travel eyeshadow. I rarely travel with powder eyeshadow because they can break so I prefer the stick cream eyeshadows when I’m on the road.

I love that this is a thinner pencil and it’s super easy to apply. One swipe and I’m looking good. I have not been able to master the “flamed out” look but I really don’t need that!

The pigmentation is great and I really like this light violet shade that has a bit of shimmer and sparkle that stays in place. The only bad thing is that you need a sharpener, I much prefer the twist-up sticks.

Covergirl TruNaked Jewels Eyeshadow Palette Review

The new Covergirl TruNaked Jewels Eyeshadow Palette is a beautiful mix of bold colors and naked metallics. I am very impressed with this new product from Covergirl. You get a combination of matte, shimmer and sparkly.

What’s to love?

I really love the shades in the Covergirl TruNaked Jewels Eyeshadow Palette. I was looking for a bold purple shade and it was more cost effective to buy the palette than an individual shade.

All of the shades except Quartz (which is a matte) are shimmer or sparkly and they have a very strong pigmentation. I did find the matte Quartz shade to be a bit chalky.

From left to right the colors are: Pearl (sparkly), Quartz (matte), Sunstone (sparkly), Amethyst (shimmer), Sapphire(shimmer), Green Amber (sparkly), Gold (sparkly) and Onyx (shimmer).

I used my finger for the swatches and a tiny bit of product went a long way. The Amethyst, Sapphire and Onyx shades were the darkest for me and the Green Amber is such a unique color.

I also love that I have a few more shimmer nudes in my collection. I use those all the time.

I created a fun dramatic 80’s look with Amethyst and Pearl and I think it looks very pretty. I used the foam applicator that’s included in the palette and I think I’d have an even nicer look if I used a good blending brush.

I can see using this palette for day or night looks and it’s one of the most versatile drug store palettes I now own.

The product has zero scent which is nice because sometimes I’ll get a product with an odd chemical smell. This one has no odor. It’s Made in Canada too.

Overall I’m very impressed with this new Covergirl Palette. I hope they spin it off with some new color combinations. I’d love to see some silver shades.

Price: $9.98 from Wal-Mart

CoverGirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick Review

I’m still on the search for the perfect matte lipstick so I decided to try out the CoverGirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick which is the Katy Perry branded line. I picked up the Coral Cat shade for Summer and I had mixed results.

What’s to love (and what’s a bit meh)?

This is definitely a demi-matte which for me is really more of a cream. While the finish leans a bit more towards matte I would say it looks and feels more creamy. I didn’t have any drying issues.

I think this is a nice drugstore pick although it is priced a bit high at $8.99 (unless you can find a sale). The lipstick itself feels on the harder side for me. It didn’t quite glide on like a high-end brand, however once I had the product entirely on my lips it looked nice. I had to use about 3 coats to get full coverage. The color did fade after eating and had to reapply about 2-3 times during the course of my day.

The lipstick does have a very faint perfume scent that I didn’t hate, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea.

The packaging is cute with a black and white case and a color-coded bottom with cat ears above the shade name. I picked the Coral Cat shade because I thought it would be pretty for Summer. I think the color is a beautiful bright coral that did make my lips pop.

Overall I’m not sure I’d get another one of these unless they were on sale. The Pink Paws shade looks very pretty.

Covergirl LashBlast Volume Mascara Review

I got the Covergirl LashBlast Volume Mascara in Very Black in my Walmart Beauty Box and found it to be a great drugstore mascara!

What’s to love?

As you all know I’m a mascara junky and germaphobic so I get super excited when a new mascara arrives in my lap via a beauty box.

First up the Covergirl LashBlast Volume is Made in the USA and it’s now my favorite drugstore one coat mascara. There are some days when I don’t want to fool with my make-up, with the LashBlast I can quickly apply one coat of mascara to go out.

This mascara gives me pretty, bold lashes without being clumpy and even looks good without eyeshadow. It drys fast and does not flake on me either. It is hypo-allergenic and it did not bother my eyes.

I would definitely pick up another LashBlast for both quality and price.

Covergirl Outlast All-Day Lip Color Review

I got a full-sized Covergirl Outlast All-Day Lip Color in Ever red-dy Red and boy does this stuff last!

cg

What’s to love?

This product is unique in that you apply the color first using the doe foot and then you let it dry for 60 seconds. Then you apply the clear lip balm for shine and protection. You can use this throughout the day and it holds up to eating and drinking.

The red shade is super dark and has massive staying power. As you can see from the photo below, it was still stained on my arm after I scrubbed it in the shower. So I would definitely call this a lip stain which is good if you want all day color.

I really liked how the clear lip balm felt too. It feels soft, gives a good shine and kept my lips nice and moisturized. I would actually wear this alone. To me it has no scent and the red lipstick has a light sweet scent.

The red shade was too read for me but I’d love to try it in Always Rosy or Cherry Cordial.

Overall I think this is a great product for people who want all-day wear.

Covergirl Gold Star Wars The Force Awakens Lipstick Review

The geek in me is so love with this retired Covergirl Star Wars The Force Awakens Lipstick. I had gotten No. 50 in Dark Purple this summer and now have the No. 40 Gold shade which I like much better.

cg

What’s to love?

My 12-year-old self would have worn this lipstick day and night as I was an extreme Empire Strikes Back fan back in the 80’s. The idea of having a Star Wars branded lipstick would have blow in mind in 1982.

Today I am genuinely thrilled to own this tiny bit of pop culture and I am all over this Gold (C-3PO) shade. It’s a gold/orange shimmer shade that looks surprisingly good for a novelty product. I would serious wear this one. It would also be great for a witch or Star Wars costume for Halloween.

The 6 piece set consists of 3 Dark Side and 3 Light Side shades. Dark Side is Dark Purple, Gold and a Berry Red while the Light Side is Lilac, White and Light Pink. I really want that White shade!

The pigmentation is really good on Gold although it feels a tiny bit grainy which I think is the shimmer.

I got this one on Amazon for $4.99 so they are still out there floating around if you want one.

Covergirl Katy Kat Eye Mascara Review

I got a full sized tube of the Covergirl Katy Kat Eye Mascara in my Target Beauty Box and I was excited to try it, the results however were pretty mixed

The good and the bad…

First I have to say that this product is not a complete disaster as a mascara but there is no way the average human is creating flawless Katy Perry cat eyes with this product.

I got the Black shade and it also comes in Perry Blue and Very Black. The tube is all white with a black font and the tube is huge. It feels much larger than a standard tube.

Oh the wand! I’d say the worst part of this product is the wand. I actually thought it might be defective when I opened the tube. The shape is is like an oval swivel (which is where I think the 360° part comes from) but for me it didn’t work. The mascara was clumped on the wand and looked thick and goopy. I had to brush a good deal of it off before I applied.

After I removed some of the product the application wasn’t too bad but I only used one light coat. I think that more than one coat would have given me clumps. It did however work surprisingly well on my bottom lashes.

kk5

Being over 40 I tend to like a light mascara that looks natural. The Katy Kat looked decent with one coat but has too many other issue for me to be a fan.

On the plus side I had no itching or irritation at all and the product have a very light scent which I liked.

kk2

I took the above photo about 3 hours after I applied the mascara and I was out on a very windy day. You can see a weird black streak on my left eye and I think that’s from my hair swiping across my mascara and onto my face which was just weird.

Overall I think this mascara would probably work for some people, it’s just not my cup of tea. With so many mascaras on the market competition is fierce (ha…Katy Perry reference there) and this one didn’t make my cut.

Covergirl Star Wars The Force Awakens Lipstick

Yes, I know I’m way, way late on this review but I just found the Covergirl Star Wars The Force Awakens Lipstick on Amazon this week and being that I’m a freakishly huge Star Wars fan I had to pick one up.

What’s to love?

Well I wasn’t completely expecting to love No. 50 Dark Purple shade on my lips. I mostly bought this as a Star Wars collectable but now that I’ve got it home I’m kind of in love with it!

Covergirl did an amazing job with both the packaging and the product has a dark side and a light side (I ended up on the dark side).

The lipstick itself looks really dark in the tube and has very little scent. However once you apply the lipstick it looks more purply/mauve. I would actually wear this shade to an evening event in the Winter. You should definitely use a lip liner, as you can see the product has a slight bleed on the edges.

This lipstick is also super creamy (not sticky, at all) and feels awesome on my lips. I had it on for awhile and it had great staying power.

I’d really like to get my hands on the other 5 shades to I’m on the look-out on Amazon.

The girl geek is super excited about owning Star Wars lipstick!
