NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Review

I decided to test out the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream today and I’m pretty impressed. This is my first experience with matte creams and I had no idea what to expect.

I got San Paulo which to me looks like a watermelon shade for $5.99 at the grocery store.

What’s to love!

This formula is super creamy and feels like a quality product, much nicer than the NYX Butter Cream Lipstick. The shade is highly pigmented and smells amazing, kind of like a vanilla cupcake.

My one challenge was applying it. I should have used a lip liner but I wanted to show the product by itself. I had a bit of trouble with bleeding but I think it’s because I’m over 40 and can’t see close-up (which stinks). My only comfort is that I’m not alone and my guess is that Adam Ant, Deborah Harry and even Simon LeBon need bifocals too.

I had no issue with this product being dry (I’ve heard that’s a problem with the matte lipsticks), it’s actually super moisturizing to me. When it drys there’s a tiny bit of stickiness left if you press your lips together but it doesn’t feel bad.

I did feel like the color was a bit dark at first but I’ve gotten several compliments so I think it’s OK. I have very little make-up on in this photo. Just some blush and mascara.

Overall I really love this product and would like to try more matte colors and brands. You definitely can teach this old dog new tricks! Mattes are not just for the younger generation!

  1. Pretty colour! These lipsticks feel so comfortable in comparison to a lot of other liquid matte lipsticks. Definitely try out the Liquid Suede range – they’re not as light and fluffy as the soft matte lip creams, but still amazing! x

  2. This looks so pretty on you! You should check out Stockholm if you want another shade that’s a little lighter! I can’t get enough of it! I wrote about it in my recent haul post.
