I got the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina sample in my August Birchbox. This creamy matte is quite nice but I’m still on the fence about mattes for me.
What’s to love?
Stila makes an amazing matte liquid lipstick. This one smells like cookies and the cream goes on super smooth. The color pigmentation is a deep rosy shade and goes on with no transparency or streaks.
The doe foot applicator is a great quality with plenty of fluff for flawless application.
However I just can’t decide if the matte lipsticks are for me. I like the look but now that I’ve been using the ones I have I feel like they are drying to my lips ver times.
Being over 40 I think I do prefer the more moisturizing like the Clinique Long Last. I’m still going to continue to try the mattes, but I’m not sure they are my favorites. Anyone else have any insight into matte vs moisturize?

Great post! I’m a lover of matte liquid lipsticks and have had good & bad experiences. Some can be SO drying that it feels like your lips are sticking together – eurgh, cringing right now!! But others can feel like you have nothing on at all. I’m from the UK and am a lover of Sleek and NYX liquid lipsticks! Thanks! I do like the NYX formula. I just think I’m so used to wearing moisturizing formulas that I’m having a hard time with the mattes. My lips are actually pretty plump with no chapping so I’m still on the hunt for the perfect matte!
Matte doesn’t do anything for me either. They just seem too dry. It’s a pretty color.

I know! I just can’t get used to the feel of them.
I think I’m all for matte liquid lipsticks, I’ve never really been a fan of a glossy or creamy finish. 😊

I have also struggled with the love/hate relationship with matte liquid lipsticks. I love the long wearing affect but they are so drying. I make sure to use a good balm before hand and then typically like to apply a light weight gloss over the type. Keeps the long wearing affect but they aren’t so drying. I love the Jouer and Huda liquid lips the best.
I want to try Huda too. I just can’t seem to wear the mattes on a regular basis because of the dryness. I always get back to the creams and glosses : )
